Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-Cross-Connection Control Program
Violation: The cross-connection control program listed the potable water connections to the crew and passenger showers and toilets with a Watts N9 backflow prevention device for protection. The connections were protected with a non-continuous pressure device.
Recommendation:Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location, and an inspection frequency. Ensure that air-gaps are included in the listing.
Site: Potable Water-Cross-Connection Control Program
Violation: There were several potable water connections to the pulper system that were listed with a Watts ASSE 1018 backflow prevention device. This is an American Society of Safety Engineers standard number and not a device number. The devices protecting those connections were Watts 009QT.
Recommendation:Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location, and an inspection frequency. Ensure that air-gaps are included in the listing.
Site: Galley-Glasswash Machines
Violation: There was no backflow prevention device on the potable water line supplying the Hobart AMX900 machines.
Recommendation:Ensure that a continuous pressure-type backflow preventer is installed when a valve is located downstream from the backflow preventer.
Site: Galley-Glasswash Machines
Violation: There was no backflow prevention device on the potable water line supplying the Hobart AMX900 machines.
Recommendation:Ensure that backflow preventers are installed when air gaps are impractical or when water under pressure is required.
