Q-Bank is an interagency collaboration, hosted by the National Center for Health Statistics, that archives question evaluation reports and makes pre-tested survey questions searchable. Q-Bank can benefit:

  • Data users… by providing evidence of construct validity
  • Organizations… by increasing transparency through the sharing of evaluation studies and pre-testing reports
  • Survey Designers… by providing a repository of information to help with creating new surveys
  • Anyone who wants to learn more about question evaluation methods

NHIS Survey Data

Q-Bank questions are now linked to survey data estimates. The process has started with questions from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), and will expand to more questions and surveys!


The Q-Notes online qualitative analysis platform is available for researchers to use while conducting question evaluation projects. Developed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), it is free and open to the public.


QUEST is an international workgroup consisting of survey methodologists who perform question design and evaluation projects at many national statistical organizations. QUEST workshops are held every 2 years. View presentations from the 2015 QUEST Workshop or previous meetings.
