Abstract: The National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) in the Division of Health Care Statistics at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) helps inform physicians, health care researchers, and policy makers about the changing characteristics of ambulatory care in this country. Currently, the NAMCS population includes only office-based physicians such as internists, OB/GYN, pediatricians, and psychiatrists. This report documents findings from a study conducted by the Collaborating Center for Questionnaire Design and Evaluation Research (CQDER) to explore the feasibility of expanding this population to non-office-based physicians, including radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, and hospitalists (such as surgeons, emergency room and intensive care unit physicians).
