Abstract: The National Center for Health Statistics’ Collaborating Center for Questionnaire Design and Evaluation Research conducted a cognitive interview study to evaluate questions on the topics of Child Injury, Sleep Pattern and Screen Time intended for inclusion in the 2020 National Health Interview Survey. A set of questions designed to assess incidence, severity, and type of injury occurring among children in the past three months, as well as where the injuries occurred, were evaluated. Additionally questions specifically about head injuries that had ever occurred in the child’s lifetime, including symptoms associated with the head injury and whether a health care professional had diagnosed a concussion or brain injury, were also evaluated, along with a set of questions about child sleep patterns and sleep quality, and a single question adapted from the National Survey of Children’s Health. Within each module main findings along with item-specific findings are presented.
