Work-related asthma: Number of cases by ascertainment source and state, 1993–2006

1 Massachusetts, Michigan, and New Jersey actively solicit reports from health care professionals; California uses an existing passive statewide, provider-based occupational injury and illness reporting system to identify cases of work-related asthma.
2 Hospital data includes hospital discharge data and/or emergency department visit data.
3 Cases have been identified through death certificates, self-reports, or reports from the Mine Safety and Health Administration or Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
