Lee H. Hilborne, MD, MPH

Lee H. Hilborne, MD, MPH, is the Director of the UCLA Center for Patient Safety and Quality for UCLA Healthcare. He is also Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA and a consultant to the health program at RAND in Santa Monica. Dr. Hilborne is the Director of SAFER California Healthcare and has published many articles related to quality of care, medical appropriateness, and patient safety. He completed his MD degree from the University of California, San Diego, and his residency in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Hilborne serves on a number of editorial boards and is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). He also is a member of the AMA's CPT Editorial Panel and various professional committees of the ASCP and the College of American Pathologists.

In addition to professional and post-graduate education, Dr. Hilborne is committed to excellence in undergraduate medical education. He teaches both first and second year medical students in several courses, taking every opportunity to "infuse" a culture consistent with excellence and safe medical care. As part of his responsibilities for SAFER California Healthcare, Dr. Hilborne lectures and consults statewide and nationally on patient safety issues.
