About the OIICS Coding Resource Software
Standalone OIICS Software Application

The NIOSH Division of Safety Research has developed a standalone desktop software application that provides the functionality of the OIICS online trees with the complete OIICS manual plus a few additional features for expanding trees and printing trees. The OIICS Coding Resource software may be downloaded for free to your computer and installed locally so that you do not require an internet connection to use the OIICS coding resource tool.

Computer Requirements
  • Microsoft Windows® operating system with the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 component installed*
  • Adobe Reader® (for viewing the manual available at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) (external link)
  • 2-5 MB of free disk space (depending upon the version downloaded)
*Users with older computers which do not already have the .NET Framework installed may attain the component for free from www.microsoft.com/downloads. The self-installing OIICS Coding Resource software automatically checks for the presence of the .NET framework and alerts the user if it is not present
Software Versions

Self-installer:The OIICS Coding Resource is available as a self-installing Microsoft Windows® application (OIICStreesetup.msi). You must have administrative rights and ~5 MB of free disk space to complete the installation. Running the self-installing application initiates a limited system compatibility test, decompresses the application files, stores the files in the directory of your choice, and places a shortcut icon on your desktop. The self-installer also may be used to repair faulty installations and to uninstall the application.

Zipped files:The OIICS software is also available in a single compressed ZIP file that contains the OIICS tree application as a simple executable file, the OIICS manual in pdf, and a help file in Windows Compiled Help format (.chm). Downloading this version does not require administrative rights, but a standard zip file decompression program is required to extract the individual program files (some versions of Windows® include “compressed folder” support).

Distribution
The software may be freely copied.
