Interactive Quarterly Early Release Estimates conditions

Interactive Quarterly Early Release Estimates provide health statistics based on data from the 2019-2020 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) for selected health topics for adults aged 18 years and over. All estimates are unadjusted percentages based on preliminary data files and are released prior to final data editing and final weighting to provide access to the most recent information from the NHIS. Estimates presented here are based on quarterly data. Estimates based on half-year data, with groupings by demographic characteristics, are available in the Interactive Biannual Early Release Estimates. Estimates based on the 1997–2018 NHIS can be found in Previous Early Release Reports on Key Health Indicators.

After you select the available health topic, the table will automatically be updated. Estimates can be viewed as a plot under the "Charts" tab, with line graphs for trends over time. The "Technical notes" tab displays a link to technical documentation on the measures and methodology used to produce the estimates. The generated table and graph can be downloaded with the download button download button under each tab. To view the Korn-Graubard (KG) 95% confidence intervals, select the "95% confidence intervals" checkbox.

Notes

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NHIS data collection switched to a telephone-only mode beginning March 19, 2020. This resulted in lower response rates and differences in respondent characteristics for Quarter 2 (April–June). Differences observed in estimates between April–June 2020 and earlier time periods may be partially or fully attributable to these changes.

Based on household interviews of a sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population. All estimates are based on preliminary data files. Unknowns were not included in the denominators when calculating percentages. For more information on the data source, methods, and definitions used for this table or chart, refer to the Technical Notes for Early Release Estimates Based on data from the National Health Interview Survey.
