Among a sample of participants of all ages collected during the year 2010, the antibody testing of stored sera specimens from NHANES 2009–2010 was conducted to determine population levels of pre-pandemic cross reactive antibody to the 2009 pandemic influenza A/H1N1 virus and related influenza viruses prior to the spread of the novel 2009 H1N1 virus. This data release contains the hemagglutination inhibition assay titers to 2009 H1N1 and three contemporary influenza viruses.
A sample of participants across all ages during the year 2010 from NHANES 2009-10 with stored sera.
Antibody titers against 2009 H1N1 and three contemporary influenza viruses were measured with the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay following standard procedures by Focus Diagnositcs, Inc., Cypress, CA.
The selected virus targets were A/California/7/2009, A/Brisbane/59/2007, A/Perth/16/2009, B/Brisbane/60/2008.
The HI assay for each target virus was performed in triplicate. The geometric mean HI titers are reported. An HI titer of ≥40 indicates prior infection with an influenza virus antigenically similar to the tested virus
Data was received after all the antibody testing was complete. The data were not edited.
Data Access: Data is available from the Research Data Center (RDC).
Commercial reagents were used for all testing. All QC procedures recommended by the manufacturers were followed.
There are four variables:
SSH1N1CA: Geometric mean hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titer against the influenza A/H1N1 virus A/California/7/2009
Continuous variable - Values range from <10 (the limit of detection) to 10240
SSH1N1BR: Geometric mean hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titer against the influenza A/H1N1 virus A/Brisbane/59/2007Continuous variable - Values range from <10 (the limit of detection) to 10240
SSH3N2PR: Geometric mean hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titer against the influenza AH3N2 virus A/Perth16/2009
Continuous variable - Values range from <10 (the limit of detection) to 10240
SSH3N2BR: Geometric mean hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titer against the influenza A/H3N2 virus B/Brisbane/60/2008
Continuous variable - Values range from <10 (the limit of detection) to 640
Values Listed < 10 the LOD will be released as 5.
