The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will hold a community meeting and public availability session for residents of Sugar Creek, Missouri, to discuss ATSDR's public health investigation at the former Amoco Refinery site.
ATSDR was petitioned in June 1998 for a public health assessment of the Amoco Oil Company site in Sugar Creek. The petitioner believes that known incidences of various types of cancers, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, and nervous disorders are directly related to contamination migrating from the Amoco site. ATSDR accepted the petitioner's request and has begun its environmental investigation at the site.
The meeting on June 2, 1999, will provide residents with an opportunity to discuss ATSDR's activities and future plans in Sugar Creek, and to discuss their health concerns with ATSDR staff.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, June 2, 1999, from 7:00 - 9:00p.m. at the Lanard Hall, 106 South Sterling, Sugar Creek, MO.
A public availability session will precede the community meeting. During the public availability session, residents are invited to stop by Lanard Hall anytime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to talk to ATSDR staff one-on-one about health concerns related to the Amoco site.
