Representatives from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), which released a health consultation for public comment in March, will hold informal open houses at the El Dorado Hills Fire Station 85, 1050 Wilson Blvd., on May 21 and May 22.

The agency asks that people who plan to attend the meetings email heciinquiries@cdc.gov if possible with their preference of time, to ensure that there is space for everyone. The email subject line should reference "El Dorado Hills."

Friday, May 21
6 to 8 p.m.: Informal Open House

Saturday, May 22
12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Technical Briefing
1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Informal Open House

At the open house sessions, scientists will be available for conversations with residents. During the technical briefing, scientists will present a summary of the report’s methods and findings.

The health consultation found that a lifetime of breathing in naturally occurring asbestos in the El Dorado Hills area could increase the risk of disease and recommended actions by local authorities and residents to reduce exposure.

ATSDR is accepting comments on the health consultation until June 30, 2010. The report can be viewed at http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/hac/pha/publiccomments.asp. A copy of the health assessment is also available for review at the following locations:
