Activity Intervention1) In 1994, education programs were established to increase awareness. 2)2. In 1995, nonsterile gloves were changed to lower protein, powder-free natural rubber latex (NRL) gloves. 3)3. In 1997, change to lower protein, powder-free NRL sterile gloves.
Participation RateRetrospective reviews for 8000 hospital employees.
Intervention Effectiveness1.) Four workers diagnosed with occupational asthma (OA) related to NRL with their asthma symptoms starting before 1995. 2)2. One worker diagnosed with OA in 1995 received workers’ compensation NRL-related OA claim. 3)3. After 1995, no NRL-related OA claims or lost-time claims due to NRL allergy through mid-1999.
