Prevention LevelSecondary
Study Year1998
Molecular Weight of AgentBoth
OccupationVarious occupations (Includes cohort reported by Allard, 1989, Hudson, 1985)
Outcome/DiagnosisOccupational asthma
Activity InterventionRemoval from exposure (> 5 years, or = 5 years)
Participation Rate99 of 242 eligible subjects (Participation rate: 41%)
Intervention EffectivenessThe proportion of subjects with normal PC20 at follow-up was higher in the > 5 yrs group (n=48) than the = 5 yrs group (n=51) (p=0.01). Follow-up PC20 could be predicted from baseline PC20 (p<0.001), duration of exposure (p=0.04), interval of removal from exposure (p=0.02), and type of agent. Exposure to HMW agents predicted a less favorable outcome (p=0.04).
