Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-Mechanical Rooms
Violation: The potable water filling lines for the whirlpools were striped blue after the backflow prevention device.
Recommendation: Remove blue striping from potable water line after the backflow prevention device.

Violation: The backflow device on the cold potable water supply line was leaking.
Recommendation: Repair or replace the leaking backflow prevention device.

Site: Housekeeping-Suite Whirlpools
Violation: The records indicated that some whirlpools were being cleaned every seven days and between passenger turnover. However, other whirlpools were only being cleaned between passenger turnover. The current itinerary is a ten day cruise.
Recommendation: Ensure that private whirlpool spas located in individual passenger cabins are cleaned and disinfected, including associated recirculation systems, between occupancies or weekly, whichever is more frequent.

Violation: The soup kettle was not located under a sneeze guard. The kettle was removed.
Recommendation: Place soup kettles under sneeze guards when placed out for service.

Site: Buffet-Lido - Lotus Cold Station
Violation: Dried fruits and nuts were placed on the buffet line without shielding or otherwise protected. Utensils were provided for each item placed out for self-service. A monitor was staged across from the buffet line. Two passengers were observed obtaining food items with their bare hands. These items were discarded immediately.
Recommendation: Ensure that food on display is protected from contamination by the use of packaging; counter, service line, or salad bar food guards; display cases; or other effective means.

Violation: There were slotted fasteners inside the deep fat fryer, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Replace slotted fasteners with low profile, smooth fasteners.

Violation: There were slotted fasteners inside the ice bath compartment of the ice machine. The slots were filled with an excessive amount of sealant, making cleaning difficult.

Recommendation: Ensure that wiping cloths used for wiping food spills are dry and used for wiping food spills from tableware and single-service articles; or wet and cleaned, stored in a chemical sanitizer, and used for wiping spills from food-contact and nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment.
