Description

The 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack was a massive disaster, resulting in long-term physical and psychological symptoms among responders, in particular PTSD and lower respiratory symptoms (LRS). The proposed study builds on an extensive pilot study by evaluating the association between change in gene expression and changes in PTSD and LRS symptom severity across an 18-month period, using cutting edge RNA-sequencing. By characterizing the transcriptome patterns and pathways for these symptoms, our goal is to shed light on the biological mechanisms underlying this comorbidity, which can help prevent the exacerbation of physical symptoms by intervening at the level of etiological pathway.
