The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will host two public meetings on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Erwin, Tenn., to gather community health concerns related to the Nuclear Fuel Services site in Erwin.
The meetings will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Community Room in Town Hall, 211 South Main Ave., in Erwin. Community members are invited to stop by at any time during the meetings to talk with ATSDR staff one-on-one about their health concerns related to the Nuclear Fuel Services site.
ATSDR was asked to respond to community concerns related to possible health effects from chemical and radiological contaminant releases into the air, groundwater and surface water in the vicinity of the site. The agency will gather community health concerns, evaluate the existing environmental and public health data, and report the findings in a public health assessment.
Community members who have questions about the upcoming meeting may contact Health Communication Specialist Marilyn Palmer or Senior Health Physicist Dr. Paul Charp at 1-888-422-8737. Those unable to attend the meetings can submit their concerns online at www.atsdr.cdc.gov/contactus or by mail to
