The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will hold a public availability session for residents of Collinsville, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, July 27, 1999. The availability session will be an opportunity for citizens to discuss any health concerns they might have in regard to the Tulsa Fuel and Manufacturing site.
The public availability session will follow a public meeting in which the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the Environmental Protection Agency and ATSDR will meet with citizens to explain the roles of all the governmental agencies involved with the site.
Both the public meeting and the public availability session will take place on Tuesday, July 27, at the Collinsville City Hall Annex, 1126 W. Main Street in Collinsville. The schedule will be:
Public Meeting 6:30pm -7:30pm.
Public Availability Session 7:30 to 9:30p.m.
The public availability session will be an opportunity for citizens to hear about ATSDR's activities and future plans for the site, and to speak one-on-one with ATSDR staff. ATSDR will be conducting a public health assessment of the Tulsa Fuel and Manufacturing Site to determine if the health of citizens might be affected by contamination at the site.
Public health assessments report information about hazardous substances in the environment and evaluate whether exposure to those substances in the past, present or future could harm people in the area. They identify health studies or other activities that might be needed and make recommendations to other government agencies, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and state and local health and environmental departments, concerning actions to protect public health.
