The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, today announced the availability of its draft report for its Evaluation of Priority Health Conditions in a Community with Historical Contamination by Trichloroethylene (TCE). The area studied includes the communities around Commerce City, Colorado.
The overall objective of this study was to use the data collected during previous work with the site to further evaluate priority health conditions in the population in the area. Priority health conditions include neurotoxic and reproductive effects which are believed/known to be related to exposure to hazardous substances. Trichloroethylene was selected as the target contaminant because it had been identified as a contaminant in the ground water at the site and in the local water distribution system and scientists have information on health effects related to TCE.
The draft report will be available for public review and comment on or about October 31, 2000, at the following repositories:
