The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry will hold a public information forum about its ongoing activities at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune on Wednesday, July 20 at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

ATSDR is conducting several activities related to Camp Lejeune, including a nationwide health survey of 300,000 former residents of U.S. Marine Corps Bases Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton.  ATSDR officials hope that everyone who receives a survey will return it in order to assure comprehensive results.

The forum will include an update from ATSDR on the health survey and its other ongoing work examining potential health effects from contaminated water, and an open house and poster session for community members to ask questions one-on-one of scientists.  The Community Assistance Panel (CAP) will give a wrap-up of activities from its earlier day-long meeting. The CAP meets quarterly to voice the concerns of the affected community of marines and sailors and their families and to provide input for future health studies.

The public forum will be held from 7 to 9:30p.m. at UNC Wilmington’s Burney Center, 601 S. College Rd. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The meeting will be available for viewing via webcast the day of the meeting. Registration is not required.
