WHAT
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) invites residents of Lawrence, Morgan, and Limestone Counties to attend a public availability session about an exposure investigation of perfluorochemicals (PFCs).
The session will allow area residents to meet ATSDR scientists, learn about the investigation results, and ask questions. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) will also be available.
WHEN
Tuesday, April 2, 2013

WHERE
Moulton Recreation Center, 13550 Court St., Moulton, AL 35650
BACKGROUND
In May 2007, a Decatur PFC manufacturer notified EPA that it had inadvertently discharged large amounts of PFCs into Decatur Utilities’ waste water system. In 2009, EPA contacted ATSDR and requested an exposure investigation to determine if unusual community exposures of PFCs were occurring. ATSDR collected blood serum and surveyed persons with a high potential for exposure in order to conduct the investigation.
For more information about the public availability session, community members can call 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).
