ATLANTA The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a federal public health agency, will host a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, for the Butte community. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the community about the work ATSDR will be doing in Butte in the next year.

The ATSDR Partnership to Promote Local Efforts to Reduce Environmental Exposure (APPLETREE) cooperative agreement program will award $13.95 million to fund 30 state health departments to evaluate past and present exposure to environmental hazards and to prevent future exposures. The cooperative agreement will provide $66.5 million (projected) to 30 state health departments over the next 5 years, beginning April 1, 2023, and is part of the White House Justice40 Initiative.

Atlanta, GA Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) released the final report for the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure assessments (EA) conducted in ten sites across the United States. The PFAS exposure assessments, which began in 2018, provided information to communities about the possible levels of PFAS in their bodies. The PFAS exposure assessments did not look at what types of health problems the exposure might cause.
