ATLANTA The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a federal public health agency and sister agency of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will conduct free blood lead testing on August 3 through August 6, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT at Iola High School, 300 E. Jackson Avenue in Iola, Kansas.

ATLANTABecause of weather predictions of snow and ice and the potential for hazardous road conditions, the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) have rescheduled the public availability session that was to be held today from 4 to 8 PM in the Oak Room of the Student Union Building at the Neosho Community College in Chanute. The session will now take place February 11, 2010, in meeting room 206 of the Student Union Building at the college, at the same time, 4-8 PM.

Chromium detected in seven private wells serving businesses and one public water supply well in Great Bend, Kansas is not expected to cause harmful health effects, concludes a federal health assessment conducted by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Levels detected in monitoring wells near the Plating Inc. facility indicate that chromium exposures would be of health concern if people were to drill private drinking water wells in this area.

A public meeting and availability session concerning the Neodesha Refinery site in Neodesha, Kan., will be held on Nov. 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ATSDR representatives will be available to discuss the results of its public health consultation regarding the refinery site.

A new fact sheet from ATSDR updates the Neodesha, Kansas community about its investigation into lead and other contaminants at the Former Amoco Refinery site.ATSDR is looking into potential exposure routes, such as air, soil and groundwater and has met with area residents to hear their health concerns. The results of ATSDR's evaluation will be provided in a written public health consultation.

The final public health assessment for the Tri-County Public Airport (TCPA), in Morris County, Kansas, concludes that persons living near TCPA were exposed to contaminated water from residential wells located off the site, via ingestion, inhalation and/or absorption.

The public health assessment provides the results of ATSDR's assessment of available environmental data for the site to evaluate exposure pathways and to address community concerns about past, current, and potential future exposures to contaminants originating at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.
