ATLANTA, GA - Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) released the report for the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure assessment conducted near the Shepherd Field Air National Guard Base in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) announced today the initiation of an exposure assessment near the Shepherd Field Air National Guard Base in the City of Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia. The purpose of the exposure assessment is to provide information to the community members about the levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in their bodies and provide information about exposures in the broader community.

A report released by the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) says that some past practices at Navy-owned property at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL), in Mineral County, West Virginia, have released contaminants into the environment. The agencys conclusions are provided below.

ATSDR will conduct an open house in Nitro, West Virginia, on Tuesday, January 23, 2001. The purpose of the open house is to provide community members with an opportunity to discuss any health concerns they have about dioxin contamination in the Kanawha River Valley.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will hold a public availability session in Fairmont, W.Va., on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000. Staff members from ATSDR and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be available to discuss planned activities related to the Big John Salvage Hoult Road Superfund site, to listen to peoples' health concerns and to answer site-specific questions. The sessions will be held at the East Dale Elementary School, Rt. 3, Fairmont, W.Va., from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
