Violation:
Drains were connected to the vents on the reduced pressure backflow assemblies at the mineralizer station and the port aft bunker station. Air gaps were not provided between these connections and the waste system.
The testing records did not note the pressure differentials for each check valve of the reduced pressure backflow assemblies.
|
|
Recommendation:
Remove the drain line connected to the vent on the reduced pressure backflow device or install an air gap. Ensure that backflow prevention devices requiring testing, for example reduced pressure backflow preventer and double check valves with test cocks, are inspected and tested with a test kit at least annually and that the test results showing the pressure differences on both sides of the valves are maintained for each device.

Violation:
The deck taps were not listed in the comprehensive cross-connection control program. The lines supplying the deck taps were in a small cabinet. These lines were not striped blue.
On deck 11 a deck tap was fitted with a hose-bib backflow preventer. This device was not designed to protect against back pressure. A high pressure washer was connected to this line. Water was noted spraying out of the vents on the backflow protection device.
|
|
Recommendation:
List the deck taps in the cross-connection control program. Stripe the potable water lines supplying the deck taps blue. Install backflow devices on deck taps that will supply high pressure washers.

Recommendation:
Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.
