Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The comprehensive cross-connection control program did not specify all of the connections. In some cases, the connection was listed as a location such as pantry or garbage store. In other cases, the term "general purposes" was listed as the connection.
Recommendation: Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location, and an inspection frequency. Ensure that air-gaps are included in the listing.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: A few potable water lines were not painted or striped blue as follows: The potable water lines to the chlorine tanks for the grey water system near the engine workshop and the distribution room. The potable water line to the bioguard tank in the engine room. The potable water lines in the crew whirlpool pump room.
Recommendation: Ensure that potable water piping and fittings are painted or striped auxiliary blue, or in accordance with ISO 14726, at 5 m (15 feet) intervals on each side of partitions, decks, and bulkheads in all spaces, except where the decor would be marred by such markings.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: A potable water connection was noted near the defoamer tank for evac tank no. 3. This line was said to be used to add water to the defoamer tank. The defoaming agent was then pumped in to the evac tank which was said to be part of the black water system. It was stated that a bucket was used to add water to the tank but the spout for this potable water line was oriented in a horizontal position and not vertical position.
Recommendation: Ensure that a hose is not used to add water to the defoamer tank. Consider moving the water line to a position directly over the defoamer tank and providing an air gap at this location.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The potable water hoses were only labeled at one of the connection ends.
Recommendation: Ensure that potable water hoses are labeled for use with the words "potable water only" in letters at least 13mm (0.5 inch) at each connecting end.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: It was not clear from the paper work provided that the coatings used on the potable water tanks were approved for use on potable water tanks. The primer used was Sigma PhenGuard 930 and the top-coat was PhenGuard 940.
Recommendation: Ensure that interior coatings on potable water tanks are approved for potable water contact, and all manufacturer's recommendations for application, drying, or curing are followed. Ensure written documentation for the coating used and recommendations followed are available for review during inspections.
Item No.: 10
Site: Recreational Water Facilities-
Violation: Painted metal covers were noted on the suction fittings at the bottom of the pools. There was no indication that these covers were anti-entrapment. There was no documentation for these drain covers on the vessel.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.
Item No.: 10
Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-
Violation: Two suction fitting covers were missing at the port crew whirlpool.
Recommendation: Replace the two suction fitting covers at the port crew whirlpool. Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S.
Item No.: 10
Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-
Violation: According to the engineer, the filter housing was washed with water after the sand was removed and before new sand was placed in the housing.
Recommendation: Ensure that the granular filter media is replaced at least every 6 months and the filter housing is cleaned and sanitized before the new filter media is placed in it.
Item No.: 10
Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-
Violation: The superhalogenation log for the whirlpools did not indicate the contact time. The engineer stated that the residual levels were tested at the start and after one hour.
Recommendation: Ensure that a written or electronic record of whirlpool spa filter inspection, backwashing, core sample sedimentation test, and shock halogenation (concentration and contact time) is maintained and available for review during inspections.
Item No.: 19
Site: Buffet-Windjammer Buffet
Violation: The new soup urns were not placed under the sneeze guard.
Recommendation: Ensure that food on display is protected from contamination by the use of packaging; counter, service line, or salad bar food guards; display cases; or other effective means.
Item No.: 20
Site: Food Service General-
Violation: There was no indication on the epoxy tube that it was non-toxic or suitable for use on food contact surfaces. This epoxy was used on the backplate of the slicer. (Scotchweld Epoxy Adhesive DP-110)
Recommendation: Ensure that products used on food contact or food splash zones are approved for said use. Obtain documentation that the epoxy is non-toxic and approved for use on food contact surfaces.
Item No.: 21
