Site: Other-LIDO POTWASH
Violation: BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES WERE NOT INSTALLED ON THE POTABLE WATER LINES SUPPLYING THE SPRAY HOSES. THE NOZZLES ON BOTH HOSES EXTENDED BELOW THE SPILL LINE OF THE COMPARTMENTS.
Recommendation: Install backflow prevention devices on the potable water lines supplying the spray hoses.

Violation: THE SPOUT AT THE SOILED END EXTENDED BELOW THE SPILL LINE OF THE COMPARTMENT.
Recommendation: Provide an air gap of two times the diameter of the spout.

Violation: NON-CONTINUOUS PRESSURE TYPE BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES WERE USED IN CONTINUOUS PRESSURE APPLICATIONS AT THE DETERGENT DISPENSERS. THESE UNITS WERE ATTACHED TO THE BUCKET FILL LINES LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE HANDWASH SINKS.
Recommendation: Vacuum breakers and backflow preventers must be properly installed and maintained in good repair at all times to assure reliable operation.

Violation: AIR GAPS WERE NOT PROVIDED AT THE SPRAY HOSE LINES. THE POTABLE WATER LINES SUPPLYING THE SPRAY HOSES WERE NOT PROVIDED WITH BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES.
Recommendation: Either provide air gaps at these lines or install backflow prevention devices.

Violation: THE PRODUCT USED FOR THE SHOCK TREATMENT OF THE SPAS DID NOT HAVE A HALOGEN AS ITS ACTIVE INGREDIENT. IN ADDITION, THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT PROVIDE A RESIDUAL LEVEL OF ITS ACTIVE INGREDIENT THAT CAN BE TESTED.
Recommendation: Use a halogen for shock treatment of the spas.

Violation: A REVIEW OF THE LOG NOTED THAT THE BROMINE LEVELS WERE NOT MAINTAINED BETWEEN 4 PPM AND 10 PPM DURING ALL HOURS OF OPERATION. IN ADDITION, THE BROMINE RESIDUAL TESTS WERE PERFORMED EVERY FOUR HOURS RATHER THAN HOURLY AS IS RECOMMENDED.
Recommendation: Except as may be noted above, this vessel complies with the current VSP Operations Manual requirements pertaining to the operation and maintenance of whirlpool spas. As an added measure to protect the health and safety of persons using whirlpool spas, it is recommended that vessels implement the Final Recommendations to Minimize Transmission of Legionnaires' Disease from Whirpool Spas on Cruise Ships, dated March 25, 1997.

Recommendation: Display tables or buffet lines for service of unpackaged foods must be effectively shielded so as to intercept any source of contamination from the consumer. Appropriate food shielding (sneeze guards) should be provided.
