The initial manual tests for free chlorine residual in the children's pool from the inspector's test kit were 0.76, 0.57, and 0.66 ppm respectively. The ship's test kit returned a free chlorine concentration of 1.23 ppm. Secondary testing from the inspector's kit some 10 minutes later produced a value of 1.53 ppm, while the ship's kit was 2.38 ppm. The ship's kit was tested against a secondary standard solution during this pool review and demonstrated it was in calibration with the standards.

Recommendation:
Ensure that a free residual halogen of >1.0 and <5.0 mg/L (ppm) is maintained in recirculated swimming pools.

The spray bottle of HB Quat used for cleaning and disinfection of the diaper-changing table was labeled with warnings specific to skin burns and eye hazards. In reviewing the data sheet with the housekeeping staff it appeared that the dilution used in the spray bottles posed no significant skin or eye hazards.

Recommendation:
Ensure that the correct warning label is affixed to the spray disinfectant bottles used for the diaper-change table. Ensure that surfaces that children touch with their hands are cleaned and disinfected at least daily with products labeled by the manufacturer for that purpose.
