THIS POOL HAD WATER FEATURES IN TERMS OF WATER TEMPERATURE AND TURBULENCE SIMILAR TO A WHIRLPOOL SPA, BUT A WATER VOLUME OF A SWIMMING POOL. ACCORDING TO THE VSP OPERATIONS MANUAL 2005 THIS POOL MEETS THE DEFINITION OF A SPA POOL. THE FREE HALOGEN RESIDUAL WAS MAINTAINED AT 1.07 PPM CHLORINE DURING THE INSPECTION, AND STAFF STATED THIS POOL WAS NOT SHOCK CHLORINATED EACH NIGHT.

Recommendation:
Ensure that swimming pools, with whirlpool spa features, are maintained at a free residual chlorine of >3.0 mg/L (ppm) and <10 mg/L (ppm), or a free residual bromine of >4.0 mg/L (ppm) and <10 mg/L (ppm). Additionally, ensure that the residual halogen level is increased to at least 10.0 mg/L (ppm) and circulated for at least 1 hour at the end of each day. Refer to sections 6.3.2.1.2 6.4.2 of the 2005 Vessel Sanitation Operation Manual.

THE FOOD PRODUCTION LABELS PLACED ON INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS/TRAYS OF READY-TO-EAT POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS FOODS (DELI MEATS, CUT MELONS, AND SLICED CHEESES) WERE LEFT ON THOSE PRODUCTS AFTER THEY WERE TRANSFERRED TO COLD HOLDING UNITS AND POSTED WITH TIME ONLY CONTROL LABELS (ON THE REFRIGERATOR EXTERIORS AND THE COUNTERS AT THE COLD TOP). THIS CREATED SOME CONFUSION, GIVEN THE PRODUCTION LABELS CALLED FOR DISCARD AFTER 24 OR 48 HOURS AND TIME ONLY CONTROL HAS A 4 HOUR LIMIT. ONCE PUT INTO A TIME CONTROL STORAGE ALL PRODUCTION LABELS SHOULD BE REMOVED.

Remove the 7 day discard production type labels when any ready-to-eat or potentially hazardous food is removed from temperature control and placed under time only as a control.

THE FRAME HINDERED PROPER CLEANING OF THE DRAIN ALLOWING FOOD AND BEVERAGE SYRUP ACCUMULATION IN THE DRAIN.

THE PAPER TOWEL DISPENSER AND WASTE RECEPTACLES IN THE PUBLIC TOILETS WERE LOCATED NEAR THE SINK, REQUIRING USERS TO USE BARE HANDS TO CONTACT THE DOOR HANDLE AND EXIT THE ROOM. THE 2005 VSP OPERATIONS MANUAL REQUIRES SOME METHOD BE USED TO ALLOW USERS TO EXIT THE ROOM WITHOUT BARE HAND CONTACT OF THE DOOR.

Recommendation:
Per section 9.1.1.1.3 of the 2005 Vessel Sanitation Operations Manual, ensure that public toilets are equipped so that persons exiting the toilet room are not required to handle the door with bare hands. This may be accomplished by methods such as locating paper towel dispensers at sinks and waste containers near the room door, installing mechanically operated doors, door removal, or other effective means.
