A container of whipped cream was not adequately protected by a sneeze shield. It was not for self service, but was located within one meter of where a consumer could stand. According to the staff, side shields had been ordered for this area. The container was immediately moved.

Recommendation:
Protect food on display from contamination by the use of packaging; counter, service line, or salad bar food guards; display cases; self-closing hinged lids; or other effective means. Install side protection for sneeze guards if the distance between exposed food and where consumers are expected to stand is less than 1 meter (40 inches).

From 27 January 2014 to 22 February 2014 no documentation was made for the cleaning and sanitizing of the hair and lint strainers and housings for the 2 pools, 5 jacuzzis, and 1 hydropool. From the last inspection on 11 November 2013 to 26 January 2014 the only notation made on the charts was 'pump inlet strainer cleaned and sanitized.'

Recommendation:
Clean, rinse, and disinfect the hair and lint strainer and hair and lint strainer housing on all RWFs weekly. Ensure disinfection is accomplished with an appropriate halogen-based disinfectant. At a minimum, use a 50-ppm solution for 1 minute, or equivalent CT value. Maintain records on all inspection and cleaning procedures.

Potable Water-Monthly Micobiological Sampling

Violation:
The monthly sampling since November 2013 included seven samples from Deck 9 and five samples from Deck 2. This does not provide a representative overview of the ship.

Recommendation:
Collect and analyze a minimum of four potable water samples per month for the presence of E. coli. Collect samples from the forward, aft, upper, and lower decks of the vessel. Change the sample sites each month so that all of the potable water distribution system is effectively monitored. Conduct follow-up sampling for each positive test result.

According to the active surveillance log fruit flies were observed in the main galley pot wash on 1 December 2013, and the main galley, main galley coffee station and main galley dishwash on 8 December 2013. No follow-up documentation was found.

When pests are noted during an inspection, ensure the log includes action taken and follow-up inspection results.
