Crew showed the inspector documentation that the potable water tank coating was approved by a third party for a disinfection procedure for marine tanks. However, the documentation did not specify it was approved for potable water or drinking water tanks. Crew then showed the inspector documentation from the coating manufacturer which stated the coating was approved by the Folkehelsa National Institute of Public Health for use as coating in potable water tanks and pipes on ships. However, documentation was not provided from the certification organization independent of the coating manufacturer.

Medical-Late Report
Violation:
On 2 Aug, a food handler had acute gastroenteritis (AGE) symptom onset at 1000 but did not report to the medical center until 1554. The crew member did not work during that time, but attended buffet-style crew welcome function. The crew member was new and had received training upon signing-on to the ship; however, it was determined that there was likely a language barrier that may have caused the crew member not to fully understand the training. The crew member was retrained in their native language and received disciplinary action.
Recommendation:
When food employees meet the case definition for AGE, ensure the following actions are taken: (1) isolate in cabin or designated restricted area until symptom-free for a minimum of 48 hours; (2) follow-up with and receive approval by designated medical personnel before returning crew to work; (3) document date and time of last symptom and clearance to return to work.

Integrated Pest Management-Passive Monitoring Log

Crew had a map of where passive monitoring traps were located. If pests were found in a trap, they were noted on a generic 'passive' line, but if no pests were found, there was no documentation that each trap had been observed. There was no passive monitoring log that listed out the traps and documented the associated passive monitoring results.
