The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will hold a public availability session to discuss the Agency's public health assessment of the 68th Street Dump and Industrial Enterprises Site and to hear about community health concerns related to the site.

The session will take place on Thursday, June 10, 1999, at the Rosedale Senior Center located at 1208 Neighbors Avenue from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Community members can drop in at any time during the session and meet with ATSDR staff to discuss health concerns related to the site. Individual conversations between community members and ATSDR staff will remain private.

Public health assessments report information about hazardous substances in the environment and determine whether exposure to those substances could harm people.

ATSDR staff evaluate environmental data, health data, and reports of community concerns during the health assessment process. The public health assessment identifies health studies or other activities that might be needed and makes recommendations to other government agencies, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), and state/local health and environmental departments concerning actions to protect public health.

Community members who would like more information about the meeting can call ATSDR Health Assessor Barbara Cooper or Community Involvement Representative La Freta Dalton, toll-free, at 1-888-422-8737. ATSDR Regional Representative Tom Stukas, at (215) 814-3142 in Philadelphia, can also be called for information. When calling, please refer to the "68th Street Dump and Industrial Enterprises Site."
