ATSDR to Host Public Availability Session for the Sonford Products Site in Flowood, Mississippi

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a federal public health agency, will hold a public availability session for the Flowood community to discuss ATSDR's activities at the Sonford Products Site and to gather health concerns from area residents. The site is located at 3506 Payne Drive in Flowood. From 1972 to 1985, two processing plants produced wood-treating chemicals and pest control products at this location. Both plants are now closed and a septic tank company leases the property.


No formal presentations will be made at the public availability session. Individuals are invited to arrive anytime during the 2-hour session and speak with an ATSDR representative. Community members are encouraged to attend and to discuss any personal health-related concerns they have about the Sonford Products Site. The session will be held:

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is seeking public comments on the health assessment of the Sonford Products Site in Flowood, MS. The purpose of the public health assessment (PHA) was to find out if people have been or are being exposed to hazardous substances in the surface soil at residential properties adjacent to the Sonford Products Site and if the exposure might affect their health. The PHA found that surface soil on residential properties adjacent to the site does not pose a health hazard to residents living there.
