Site: Potable Water-Cross-Connection Control Program
Violation: The following backflow prevention device connections were not included in the cross-connection control program: whirlpool tub and shower in the Royal Suite, carbonators of the multi-flow soda systems, and the spa steam generators. Each location had appropriate protection installed on the potable water connection.
Recommendation: Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location, and an inspection frequency. Ensure that air-gaps are included in the listing.

Violation: The backflow prevention device on the carbonator was not vented.
Recommendation: Ensure that all backflow prevention devices have an atmospheric vent.

Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-Roman Spa
Violation: There was no documentation that the drain cover was anti-entrapment. According to the Facility Manager, the drains were not under suction and were only used to drain the Spa and not for recirculation.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.

Site: DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-Large Whirlpools
Violation: There was no documentation that the drain cover for the large whirlpools were tested to be anti-entrapment. There was a letter from the shipyard that indicated the covers were constructed to meet ANSI/ASME A112.19.8M, but no indication that they were tested following construction. The Facilities Manager states that the drains were only used for draining the pool and not for recirculation.

Recommendation: Ensure that symptomatic food employees meeting the case definition for AGE are isolated in cabin or designated, restricted area until symptom-free for a minimum of 48 hours.

Violation: There was a close contact of a crew member with gastrointestinal illness with an initial interview date recorded as 11/11 and the 24-hour interview recorded as 11/14.
Recommendation: Ensure that medical staff conduct daily verbal interviews with asymptomatic crew until 48 hours after onset of the ill crew members symptoms.

Recommendation: Ensure that equipment that is fixed because it is not easily movable is installed so that it is: (1) Spaced to allow access for cleaning along the sides, behind, under and above the equipment; (2) Spaced from adjoining equipment, bulkhead, and deckhead at a distance of not more than 0.8 millimeter or 1/32 inch; or (3) Sealed to adjoining equipment or bulkhead, if the equipment is exposed to spillage or seepage.

Violation: There were seams along the front inside edges of the curved technical compartments where the grout was cracked. This was at the compartments between the island grill and the port buffet and between the island grill and the starboard buffet.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment that are exposed to splash, spillage, or other food soiling or that require frequent cleaning are constructed of a corrosion-resistant, nonabsorbent, and smooth material.

Violation: Two of the hand-hold covers for the sliding storage cabinet doors were missing, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.
