Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Whirlpool Safety Signs
Violation: The whirlpool safety sign did not include 'do not use these facilities if you are experiencing diarrhea, vomiting or fever', bather load #, or cautions against use by the elderly or those with low blood pressure.
Recommendation: Provide safety signs for all RWFs, except for baby-only water facilities. Ensure the signs, at a minimum, include the following words: (1) do not use these facilities if you are experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, or fever; (4) bather load #. In addition to the safety sign requirements in section 6.7.1.1.1, install a sign at each whirlpool spa and spa pool entrance listing precautions and risks associated with the use of these facilities. Include, at a minimum, cautions against use by the following: (2) individuals on medication or who have underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or high or low blood pressure; and (3) pregnant women, elderly persons, and children.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Hair Strainer Sanitation
Violation: The hair and lint strainer and housing was not cleaned, rinsed and disinfected weekly.
Recommendation: Clean, rinse, and disinfect the hair and lint strainer and hair and lint strainer housing on all RWFs weekly. Ensure disinfection is accomplished with an appropriate halogen-based disinfectant. At a minimum, use a 50-ppm solution for 1 minute, or equivalent CT value. Maintain records on all inspection and cleaning procedures.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Swimming Pool Antientrapment
Violation: The drains for the swimming pools were more than 3 feet apart, but did not have antientrapment drain covers installed. There was no alarm for the draining of the pools.
Recommendation: For RWFs with gravity drainage and multiple drains (2 or more drains greater than 3 feet apart), provide either a standard design (not compliant with ASME A112.19.8) drain cover and an alarm, or an ASME A112.19.8 compliant antientrapment/antientanglement drain cover. Ensure the alarm is audible and sounds in both a continuously manned space and at the RWF. Ensure this alarm is for all draining: accidental, routine, and emergency.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Alkalinity Monitoring
Violation: There was no means onboard to test the recreational water facilities for alkalinity.
Recommendation: Ensure a test kit is available for testing water quality parameters, including free and total halogen levels (chlorine and bromine, where applicable), pH, and total alkalinity. Ensure all reagents are not past their expiration dates.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Analyzer Chart Recorders
Violation: The sample points for the analyzer chart recorders for all of the recreational water facilities onboard were located after the compensation tank.
Recommendation: Install chart recorders or electronic data loggers with security features that record pH and halogen measurements for each individual RWF. Ensure the sample line for the analyzer probe (monitoring) is either directly from the RWF or on the return line from each RWF and before the compensation tank.

Violation: Some areas of the left dough sheeter belt were frayed with cut marks, making cleaning difficult. Staff stated a new belt will be delivered next week.
Recommendation: Ensure multiuse food-contact surfaces are: (1) Smooth.

Violation: At the waiter station, a container of sanitizing solution with wiping cloths had a concentration of less than 50 ppm. The solution was remade.
Recommendation: Ensure sanitizing solutions are used with the following concentrations: (1) A chlorine solution with a concentration between 50 mg/L (ppm) and 200 mg/L (ppm).

Site: Bar-Burger Bar
Violation: A wiping cloth used to wipe tables was stored on the soiled landing of the port forward waiter station and not in a chemical sanitizing solution.
Recommendation: Restrict wiping cloths to the following: (2) Cloths used for wiping food spills are dry and used for wiping food spills from tableware and single service articles or wet and cleaned, stored in a chemical sanitizer, and used for wiping spills from food-contact and nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment; (4) Wet wiping cloths used with a freshly made sanitizing solution and dry wiping cloths are free of food debris and visible soil.

Site: Buffet-Aft Grill (Starboard)
Violation: The light fixture above the ceram tops was soiled. The area was not in use at the time of the inspection, and had not been used since the previous evening. A crew member cleaned and sanitized the light fixture.
Recommendation: Ensure non-food-contact surfaces of equipment are kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

Site: Galley-Entrance to Golden Dining Room
Violation: There were no paper towels available at the handwashing facility near the entrance to the Golden Dining Room. The paper towel dispenser was restocked.
Recommendation: Ensure each handwashing facility has a supply of hand-cleansing soap or detergent and a supply of single-service paper towels available.

Violation: The deck was lightly soiled throughout this room.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, deckheads, and attached equipment in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are cleaned as often as necessary.

Violation: The stainless steel profile plates on the potable water lines to the two combination ovens were loose at the bulkhead, creating a gap.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, bars, and food and equipment storage areas are constructed and maintained for easy cleaning. Do not use carpet in these areas.

Violation: The lighting intensity was less than 110 lux beside and behind the ice machines in the inspected pantries and beside and behind the ice dispenser in the Captain's pantry.
Recommendation: Ensure the light intensity is at least 110 lux (10 foot candles) behind and around mounted equipment, including counter-mounted equipment.

Site: Galley-Aft Port Dishwash
Violation: There was excess condensation on the bulkhead at the soiled end of the flight-type dishwash machine. Water was spraying from the machine towards the crew member working at the soiled end. The crew member working on the soiled end was sweating heavily.
Recommendation: Ensure ventilation hood systems and devices are sufficient in number and capacity to prevent grease or condensation from collecting on bulkheads and deckheads.

Site: Provisions-Room 18 - Wine, Beer, Water, and Soda
Violation: A box of disposable razors was stored on the deck. The room was not in active loading at the time of the inspection. The box was removed from the room.
Recommendation: Ensure only articles necessary for the food service operation are stored in food preparation, food storage, and warewashing areas.

Site: Integrated Pest Management-Active Monitoring
Violation: In the records for active monitoring for pests, the time of the inspection was not recorded.
Recommendation: Ensure the IPM Plan includes provisions for logs for active monitoring of pest sightings in operational areas of the vessel. Ensure the IPM plan includes provisions for training of crew members in charge of log completion. Record the time of the active monitoring inspections in the log.

Site: Housekeeping-Outbreak Prevention and Response Plan
Violation: The OPRP did not include: the disinfectant products used onboard, the surfaces to be disinfected, or the required contact time for the disinfectant; how the ship will inform passengers and crew members of an outbreak; or procedures to return to normal operating conditions.
Recommendation: Ensure each vessel has a written OPRP that details standard procedures and policies to specifically address AGE onboard. Include the following in the written OPRP: (3) Disinfectant products or systems used, including the surfaces or items the disinfectants will be applied to, concentrations, and required contact times; (4) Procedures for informing passengers and crew members of the outbreak; (5) Procedures for returning the vessel to normal operating conditions after an outbreak.

Site: Children Area-Camp Carnival
Violation: The exclusion policy posted at the entrance did not include a requirement for written clearance from the medical staff before a child with symptoms of infectious illness can be allowed in Camp Carnival. The staff described using a form that must be signed and stamped by the medical center before a child is allowed to return.
Recommendation: Ensure the child activity center has a written exclusion policy on procedures to be followed when a child develops symptoms of an infectious illness while at the center. Ensure the exclusion policy includes a requirement for written clearance from the medical staff before a child with symptoms of infectious illness can be allowed in the child activity center. Post the policy at the entrance of the child activity center.

Site: Children Area-Camp Carnival
Violation: The water temperature at the handwashing sinks outside the children's toilet room could be adjusted to greater than 110F.
Recommendation: Ensure the maximum water temperature for a handwashing station does not exceed 43C (110F).
