Violation: THE GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS SURVEILLANCE LOG DID NOT LIST PASSENGERS WITHOUT SYMPTOMS WHO WERE DISPENSED ANTIDIARRHEAL MEDICATION. THE ANTIDIARRHEAL MEDICATION LOG DID LIST THESE INDIVIDUALS.
Recommendation: The log shall list: (1) All reportable cases of gastrointestinal illness; (2) All passengers and crew members who are dispensed antidiarrheal medication from the master of the vessel, the medical staff, or other designated staff.

Recommendation: Install extension piping to the existing refrigeration drain pipes and extend them to a proper deck sink or drain.

Violation: THERE WAS NO BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE ON THE POTABLE WATER CONNECTION TO THE CLOTHES WASHER IN THIS SPACE. THIS WAS CORRECTED DURING THE INSPECTION.
Recommendation: The vessel shall provide a comprehensive cross- connection control program that provides safe connections to the potable water system through air gaps or appropriate backflow devices at the following locations, if present: (1) Potable water supply lines to swimming pools, whirlpool spas, hot tubs, bathtubs, showers, and similar facilities; (2) Photographic laboratory developing machines and utility sinks; (3) Beauty and barber shop spray-rinse hoses; (4) Potable water faucets where hoses are connected or can be connected by threaded or quick-connect outlets such as those serving tanks containing chlorine and other chemicals, and deck taps; (5) Garbage grinders and pulpers; (6) Mechanical warewashing machines; (7) Hospital and laundry equipment; (8) Air conditioning expansion tanks; (9) Boiler feed water tanks; (10) Fire systems; (11) Toilets; (12) Potable water, bilge, and sanitary pumps that require priming; (13) Freshwater or saltwater ballast systems; (14) Bilge or other waste water locations; (15) International shore connection; and (16) Any other connection between potable and non-potable water systems.

Recommendation: Ensure that a continuous pressure-type backflow preventer is installed when a valve is located downstream from the backflow preventer.

Violation: THERE WAS NO BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE INSTALLED FOR THE POTABLE WATER CONNECTION TO THE STEAM GENERATORS IN THE SPA MENS AND WOMENS SECTIONS. AN AROMA CHEMICAL IS ALSO CONNECTED AT EACH STEAM GENERATOR.
Recommendation: Install continuous pressure backflow preventers for the potable water supply to the steam generators.

Violation: THE WRITTEN PROGRAM AND LISTING OF BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES LISTED ONLY MECHANICAL DEVICES, SO AIR-GAP PREVENTION WAS NOT NOTED, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A NUMBER OF AIR-GAPS FOR UNITS LIKE CHEMICAL TANKS AND MINERALIZERS NOTED DURING THE INSPECTION.
Recommendation: Include air-gap backflow preventers in the written cross-connection control program and ensure they are inspected according to the schedule for others.

Site: Other-PORT SIDE FAMILY WHIRLPOOL - NEAR THE MAIN POOL
Violation: ON 3 SEPARATE MANUAL TESTS THE HIGHEST BROMINE RESIDUAL IN THE FAMILY WHIRLPOOL WAS ONLY 3.5 PPM. THE WHIRPOOL WAS OPEN AND IN ACTIVE USE BY GUESTS. THE COLOR COMPARISON DEVICE USED BY THE SHIP'S STAFF GAVE A VISUAL READING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 3 AND 4 PPM ON 3 SEPARATE TESTS, BUT THE ACTUAL VALUE WAS DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH BY COLOR.
Recommendation: Ensure that whirlpool spas are maintained at a free residual chlorine of >3.0 mg/L (ppm) and <10 mg/L (ppm), or a free residual bromine of >4.0 mg/L (ppm) and <10 mg/L (ppm).

Violation: TWO TROLLEYS FILLED WITH SERVING TRAYS OF DANISH AND CROISSANTS WERE SET INSIDE THE DELI SPACE FOR BACK-UP TO THE BUFFET SERVICE. ONLY ONE TRAY WAS WRAPPED TO PROTECT THE FOOD. THE DOOR TO THE SPACE WAS OPEN AND TWO FLIES WERE NOTED IN THE SPACE.
Recommendation: In such an arrangement each individual sheet pan of danish or croissant should be wrapped in food plastic until such time as it is retrieved and removed to the buffet service line.

Recommendation: Ensure that all food preparation, warewashing, and toilet rooms have sufficient ventilation to keep them free of excessive heat, steam, condensation, vapors, obnoxious odors, smoke, and fumes. Maintain the hot water sanitizing rinse near the minimum 171 F to reduce steam generation in the space.

THERE WAS NO WORK ACTIVITY IN THE SPACE, EXCEPT STAFF MOVING FOOD PANS OUT OF THE WALK-IN REFRIGERATORS TO THE BUFFET. STAFF WERE ADVISED TO SANITIZE ALL FOOD CONTACT SURFACES. THE PEST MANAGEMENT STAFF WERE ALSO ADVISED OF THE CONDITION IN THIS SPACE AND THE DELI AT APPROXIMATELY 10 AM. ON A RETURN INSPECTION AT 12:20 PM THERE WERE 5 STAFF INVOLVED IN FOOD PREPARATION IN THE PANTRY, THE ENTRY DOORS WERE CLOSED, AND THERE WERE 5 HOUSE FLIES NOTED IN THE SPACE.
Recommendation: Ensure that the presence of insects, rodents, and other pests is effectively controlled to minimize their presence in the food storage, preparation, service areas, warewashing, and utensil storage areas aboard a vessel.

Recommendation: Ensure that entry points where pests may enter the food areas are protected. Consider installation of air curtain equipment at the entry doors if they will remain open.

Violation: THE ACCESS TO THE CONDENSATE DRAIN PANS IN THE VARIOUS AIR HANDLING FAN ROOMS WAS POOR. THE EXISTING FIBER OPTIC DEVICE TO VIEW THE PANS WAS NOT CAPABLE OF PROVIDING A CLEAR AND FULL VIEW. THE PAN ACCESS REQUIRES MECHANICAL MODIFICATIONS TO GAIN A PROPER VIEW.
Recommendation: Make needed repairs to allow full view of the condensate drain pans in each air-handling unit. Ensure the corrective action statement for this violation details the progress of this repair in both the upcoming dry dock and beyond, so it is clear when all units will be fully modified.
