Site: Buffet-Deck 14 - Aft Beverage Station (Starboard)
Violation: The backflow prevention device had a slimy residue that was blocking the vents. A technician was called to replace the device.
Recommendation: Maintain backflow prevention devices in good repair.

Violation: Water continuously dripped from the backflow prevention device in the technical compartment of the coffee machine.

Site: Potable Water-Reverse Osmosis
Violation: The permeate water line after the reverse osmosis unit had blue potable water labels with directional arrows and text that stated potable water. The water lines were striped blue/gray/blue.
Recommendation: Stripe or paint potable water lines either in accordance with ISO 14726 (blue/green/blue) or blue only. Stripe or paint distillate and permeate lines directed to the potable water system in accordance with ISO 14726 (blue/gray/blue). Ensure no other lines have the above color designations. Stripe or paint these lines at 5 meters (15 feet) intervals and on each side of partitions, decks, and bulkheads, except where decor would be marred by such markings, including potable water supply lines in technical lockers.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Deck 12 Whirlpool 2
Violation: The anti-entrapment drain cover was not flush with the bottom of the whirlpool and moved up and down when touched with a pole. The whirlpool was netted and not in operation.
Recommendation: Provide an AMSE A112.19.8 compliant antientrapment/antientanglement drain cover that is installed and maintained per manufacturer's instructions.

Site: Pantry-Tween Deck - Crew Bar
Violation: After opening the ice machine, the crew member did not wash their hands before putting on new gloves.
Recommendation: Ensure food employees clean their hands and exposed portions of their arms immediately before engaging in food preparation including working with exposed food, clean equipment and utensils, and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles and: (1) Before putting on gloves for working with food or clean equipment and between glove changes; and (2) After engaging in other activities that contaminate the hands.

Violation: The bottom left conveyor oven had a slotted fastener on the far-right side.
Recommendation: Use only low profile, nonslotted, noncorroding, and easy-to-clean fasteners on food-contact surfaces and in splash zones. Prohibit the use of exposed slotted screws, Phillips head screws, or pop rivets in these areas.

Violation: The fire shutter for the hot grill was poorly ripped in multiple areas.
Recommendation: Design and construct nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment and utensils to be durable and to retain their characteristic qualities under normal use conditions.

Violation: The final sanitizing rinse curtains for both the rack-type and flight- type dishwash machines were peeling, ripped and soiled with food debris. They were removed and replaced immediately.
Recommendation: Maintain warewashing equipment in good repair and proper adjustment, including: (1) warewashing equipment is maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the standards of the materials, design, and construction of these guidelines; (2) water pressure and water temperature-measuring devices are maintained in good repair and accurate within the intended range of use.

Violation: The portside and starboard side of the waiter stations had chipped and missing tiles. Additionally, the deck tile grouting was missing causing a large space in between the tiles and a difficult to clean surface.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are maintained in good repair.

Violation: The bulkhead/deckhead juncture was soiled inside the walk-in refrigerator that was next to the blast chiller. The inspector used an alcohol swab, and a black residue came off. No food was impacted.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, deckheads, and attached equipment in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are cleaned as often as necessary.

Site: Medical-Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) Routine Reports
Violation: Medical staff submitted 24-hour and 4-hour AGE reports before all U.S. ports, not just when destined to a U.S. port from a foreign port. For example, on voyage 64463, they departed Los Angeles on 8 October 2023 and submitted AGE reports for their next three ports of call, Santa Barbara on 10 October, San Francisco 11 October, and San Diego on 13 October.
Recommendation: Ensure the supervisor or person in charge of medical operations related to AGE on the vessel demonstrates to VSP?during inspections and on request?knowledge of medical operations related to AGE, is able to demonstrate this knowledge by compliance with Section 4 of the VSP 2018 Operations Manual or by responding correctly to the inspector?s questions as they relate to the specific operation, and properly trains employees to comply with Section 4 of the VSP 2018 Operations Manual as it relates to their assigned duties.
