Site: Pantry-Deck 16 - Wake View Port Side
Violation: The backflow prevention device for the soda carbonator was not angled to drain properly and the tube connected was taped shut at the end.
Recommendation: Maintain backflow prevention devices in good repair.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Engine Room - Aft Sky Pool
Violation: The digital flow meter for this pool was not working when observed by the inspection team. The pool was open when the observation was noted. This was quickly fixed and was observed working by the end of the inspection.
Recommendation: Replace RWF filter pressure gauges, flow meters, and valves when they are defective.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Deck 5 - Hydro Pool
Violation: The shepherd's hook was not stored in a prominent location that was visible from the full perimeter of the pool.
Recommendation: Provide a rescue or shepherd?s hook and an approved flotation device at a prominent location (visible from the full perimeter of the pool) at each RWF that has a depth of 1 meter (3 feet) or greater. Mount these devices in a manner that allows for easy access during an emergency. Ensure the pole of the rescue or shepherd?s hook is long enough to reach the center of the deepest portion of the pool from the side plus 2 feet. Ensure it is a light, strong, nontelescoping material with rounded, nonsharp ends. Ensure the approved flotation device includes an attached rope that is at least 2/3 of the maximum pool width. Ensure the rescue or shepherd?s hook is long enough to touch the bottom center of the deepest portion of the RWF plus 2 feet (0.6 meters) as measured from the closest edge without an obstruction. This edge can only be used for measurement if someone could freely walk down both sides without an obstruction such as a waterfall, fountain, statue, etc. For a rectangular pool, ensure the shorter distance is measured from the long side of the rectangle as long as there are no obstructions. Measure the 2 feet (0.6 meters) distance from where the shepherd?s hook crosses the fill line of the RWF.

Site: Medical-Acute Gastroenteritis Log (AGE)
Violation: On 10 February 2024, a food employee had onset of AGE symptoms at 1500 and reported to medical at 1700. The employee also worked while symptomatic for one-hour according to their timecard. Disciplinary actions were taken, and retraining occurred.
Recommendation: When food employees meet the case definition for AGE, ensure the following actions are taken: (1) isolate in cabin or designated restricted area until symptom-free for a minimum of 48 hours; (2) follow-up with and receive approval by designated medical personnel before returning crew to work; (3) document date and time of last symptom and clearance to return to work. Ensure the food employee's supervisor or person in charge conducts an assessment of food prepared or served by the food employee while symptomatic and take appropriate corrective actions. Document corrective actions taken as a result of the assessment. Maintain records for 1 year and make them available for review during inspections. Review [when possible] any AGE cases among passengers or crew reported after the ill food employee?s symptom onset for epidemiologic link/connection. Appropriate corrective actions could include discarding ready-to eat food, thoroughly cooking raw food, and disinfecting the food area and equipment.

Site: Provisions-Deck 4 - Frozen Meat & Ice Block
Violation: A box of short ribs had a heavy amount of ice encrusted on the bottom and top of the box. The box was immediately removed and discarded by staff.
Recommendation: Protect food from contamination by storing the food: (1) Covered or otherwise protected; (2) In a clean, dry location; (3) Where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination; (4) At least 150 millimeters (6 inches) above the deck; (5) At least 127 millimeters (5 inches) for food in packages and working containers on pallets, skids, and racks; and (6) At least 150 millimeters (6 inches) above the deck on shelving racks.

Site: Preparation Room-Blast Chiller
Violation: The blast chiller was out of order and awaiting new spare parts. The equipment has been out of order since 29 February 2024.
Recommendation: Food contact equipment must be maintained in good repair and proper adjustment: (1) Equipment must be maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the materials, design, construction, and operating specifications of these guidelines; and (2) Cutting or piercing parts of can openers must be kept sharp to minimize the creation of metal fragments that can contaminate food when the container is opened.

Violation: The vegetable dryer was out of order and awaiting new spare parts. The equipment has been out of service for about a month according to crew.

Violation: The juice dispenser had slotted fasteners in the food splash zone.
Recommendation: Use only low profile, nonslotted, noncorroding, and easy-to-clean fasteners on food-contact surfaces and in splash zones. Prohibit the use of exposed slotted screws, Phillips head screws, or pop rivets in these areas.

Violation: The metal profile at the countertop bulkhead juncture was detached from the bulkhead creating an open gap.
Recommendation: Ensure nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.

Violation: The flight-type warewash machine was out of order since 2 March 2024 and awaiting new spare parts. Expected arrival should be 17 MArch 2024 according to staff.
Recommendation: Maintain warewashing equipment in good repair and proper adjustment, including: (1) warewashing equipment is maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the standards of the materials, design, and construction of these guidelines; (2) water pressure and water temperature-measuring devices are maintained in good repair and accurate within the intended range of use.

Violation: A previously cleaned and sanitized toaster machine was soiled with dust. This was taken to be recleaned and sanitized.

Violation: The juice dispenser had more than a day's worth of food debris above the nozzles in the food splash area. The dispenser was cleaned and sanitized immediately.

Violation: A soiled housekeeping trolley stored in the corridor outside this pantry had soiled glassware and ice buckets in contact with an open bucket of non-food contact chemical disinfectant. The glassware and the ice buckets are washed inside the deck pantry.
Recommendation: Clean and sanitize all food equipment and utensils in the area treated after the application of a poisonous or toxic material.

Violation: Two, floor dryers were resting on the side of the water fountain dispenser. The crew stated this was not the proper equipment storage and immediately relocated the dryers..
Recommendation: Store maintenance tools such as mops, brooms, and similar items in an orderly manner that facilitates cleaning of the area used for storing the maintenance tools.

Violation: The exit door did not have a sign advising passengers to use a towel to open the door or to prevent the handling of the door with bare hands. Additionally, the bathroom did not have a 'wash hands often' signage.
Recommendation: Provide the passenger and crew public toilets with a handwashing station that includes: (1) Hot and cold running water; (2) Soap; (3) A method to dry hands; (4) A sign advising users to wash hands. Post a sign advising users of toilet facilities to use hand towel, paper towel, or tissue to open the door unless the exit is hands free.

Violation: White granular debris and black slime were on the top surface of the water droplet eliminator's metal housing.
Recommendation: Inspect evaporative condensers at least annually and clean as necessary to remove scale and sediment. Clean cooling coils and condensate pans as necessary to remove dirt and organic material.
