Recommendation: Ensure warewashing machines, drainboards, and the compartments of sinks, basins, or other receptacles used for washing and rinsing equipment, utensils, or raw foods, or laundering wiping cloths are cleaned: (1) before use; (2) throughout the day at a frequency necessary to prevent recontamination and accumulation of excessive debris, and to ensure that the equipment performs its intended function; (3) at least every 24 hours (if used).

Site: Medical-Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) Reporting
Violation: During voyage 1128004, a food handler started experiencing symptoms of AGE (diarrhea and vomiting) on 19 November 2024 at 0930, but did not report to the medical center until 1435. Additionally, the food worker started working at 0843 on the same day and stopped working at 1200. A food assessment was completed by the supervisor.
Recommendation: When food employees meet the case definition for AGE, ensure the following actions are taken: (1) isolate in cabin or designated restricted area until symptom-free for a minimum of 48 hours; (2) follow-up with and receive approval by designated medical personnel before returning crew to work; (3) document date and time of last symptom and clearance to return to work.

Site: Children Area-Deck 12 - Camp Ocean
Violation: The child activity center (for children 6 months to 4 years old) had several plastic toys that were difficult to clean. Staff reported they disinfected the toys using a steam cleaner. For complete inactivation of norovirus, steam cleaning must be completed at 158F for 5 minutes or 212F for 1 minute, which can be difficult to achieve while cleaning plastic toys. Staff were unable to confirm these parameters are met when the steam cleaner is used.
Recommendation: Ensure toys used in the child-activity center are easily cleanable and maintained in a clean condition.
