Site: Potable Water-Disinfection Log
Violation: Five backflow prevention devices were installed on the potable water distribution system on 31 August 2024 without being disinfected. The disinfection log had no records for the backflow prevention devices and staff stated they were not sure if the devices were disinfected prior to installation. The devices included: 1) Water dispenser on deck 4, fire zone 3; 2) Breakfast section starboard ice machine on deck 4, fire zone 2; 3) Colonnade beverage station water dispenser on deck 8, fire zone 4; 4) Observation bar/pantry pre-rinse sprayer on deck 9; and 5) Observation bar/pantry coffee machine on deck 9.
Recommendation: Clean, disinfect, and flush potable water tanks and all affected parts of the potable water distribution system with potable water: (1) before being placed in service; (2) before returning to operation after repair, replacement; or (3) after being subjected to any contamination, including entry into a potable water tank.

Site: Potable Water-Bunkering Records
Violation: The pH level was not monitored hourly on 09 March 2024 when manual samples were collected during bunkering operations in Brazil due to issues with the pH analyzer chart recorder. The pH was monitored at 1015, 1130, 1230, 1420, 1600, 1730, 1845, 2000, 2100, 2210, and 2305. Additionally, the pH level was recorded as 'low' and the actual value was not recorded for all measurements on 09 March 2024.
Recommendation: After the free residual halogen level of at least 2.0 mg/L (ppm) and pH level not exceeding 7.8 have been reached, monitor the free residual halogen and pH at least hourly during the bunkering of potable water. Maintain accurate records of production and bunkering monitoring aboard for 12 months and ensure these records are available for review during inspections.

Site: Pantry-Deck 8 Solis
Violation: The air relief vents on the ice machine's backflow prevention device were clogged and in disrepair. The device was replaced before the end of the inspection.
Recommendation: Maintain backflow prevention devices in good repair.

Violation: The air relief vents on the coffee machine's backflow prevention device were clogged with black debris and in disrepair. The device was replaced before the end of the inspection.

Site: Potable Water-Deck 3 Garbage Room
Violation: The backflow prevention devices for both the cleaning sink and the large biodigester were in disrepair with the air vents blocked with pink residue.

Site: Recreational Water Facilities-Deck 8 Main Pool
Violation: The water depth was not prominently displayed on the port side of the pool.
Recommendation: Prominently display the depth of each RWF that is deeper than 1 meter (3 feet) so that it can be seen from the deck and in the pool. Label depth markers in both feet and meters. Additionally, install depth markers for every 1 meter (3 feet) change in depth.

Site: Medical-
Violation: It was unknown if two identified passengers who had public vomiting incidents on 28 and 29 July 2024 were advised by medical staff to remain isolated or were followed-up to identify if they met the case definition for acute gastroenteritis. Medical staff could not recall if this took place nor were there any records of either passenger in their online illness surveillance system, interaction log, or emails.
Recommendation: When symptomatic, ill passengers meet the case definition for AGE, ensure the following actions are taken: (1) advise them to remain isolated in their cabins until well for a minimum of 24 hours after symptom resolution, and (2) a follow-up by infirmary personnel is advised.

Site: Buffet-Deck 8 Colonnade
Violation: The countertops throughout the buffet area were chipped along the edges. The ship plans to replace the countertops during the next dry dock.
Recommendation: Ensure nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.

Site: Other-Deck 9 Bridge
Violation: The coffee machine was soiled around the dispensing chutes with more than a day's worth of coffee residue.
Recommendation: Ensure food only contacts surfaces of equipment and utensils that are cleaned and sanitized. Ensure food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils are clean to sight and touch.

Site: Pantry-7.4.45 Housekeeping
Violation: A deck tile in front of the ice machine was in disrepair with a coin-sized chip missing from the middle of the tile.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are maintained in good repair.

Site: Preparation Room-Deck 3 Poultry
Violation: Water leaked from the deckhead at the entrance inside the room. The source of the water could not be determined. No food was impacted and no water pooled on the deck.
Recommendation: Ensure decks, bulkheads, deckheads, and attached equipment in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are cleaned as often as necessary.

Violation: A small fly was near the ice machine.
Recommendation: Effectively control the presence of insects, rodents, and other pests to minimize their presence in the food storage, preparation, and service areas and warewashing and utensil storage areas aboard a vessel.
