DUE TO THE INSTALLED PLASTIC GUARD ON THE ACTUATING LEVER OF THE ICE DISPENSER ON THE BEVERAGE LINE, ONLY THE END OF THE LEVER IS EXPOSED FOR CONTACT WITH DRINK CUPS. BECAUSE CREW AND STAFF ARE PERMITTED TO REFILL CUPS AFTER USE THERE WAS A STRONG POTENTIAL FOR CONTAMINATION OF THE LEVER FROM THE LIP-CONTACT PORTION OF THE CUP. THIS ITEM WAS CORRECTED DURING THE INSPECTION.
Recommendation:
Remove the plastic guards so the lever is naturally extended and users will not be forced to contact only the lever tip with the cup edge.

FIVE PREVIOUSLY CLEANED CUTTING BOARDS STORED ON THE CLEAN STORAGE RACK HAD SMALL PLASTIC, HAIR-LIKE FIBERS PROTRUDING FROM THE BOARD SURFACE. THERE WAS A ROUGH CIRCULAR PATTERN ON EACH BOARD WHERE A CIRCULAR SANDER WAS USED TO RE-SURFACE THEM, BUT IT APPEARED THE SANDER WAS CREATING THE CONDITION OF THE RAISED FIBERS AND MAKING THE BOARDS ROUGH AND DIFFICULT TO CLEAN.
Recommendation:
Ensure that surfaces such as cutting blocks and boards that are subject to scratching and scoring are resurfaced if they no longer can be effectively cleaned and sanitized, or discarded if they are not capable of being resurfaced. If sanders are used, select belt types which will plane down the plastic surface rather than raise particles from the surface.
