Worker Fatality Alert: Laboratory Research Assistant Dies of Burns From a Pyrophoric Chemical
The California Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation Program (CA FACE) conducts research-oriented investigations into workplace fatalities in an effort to develop and disseminate recommendations to prevent similar incidents. This alert highlights a fatality at a biochemistry research laboratory; the worker was using t-butyl lithium, one of a class of chemicals that are spontaneously flammable in air (pyrophoric).
