"Body Armor, Small Arms Protective, Aircrew, Survival "

Description

This specification covers a ceramic body armor insert to be worn by aircrew personnel. The body armor when inserted into the carrier and worn is intended to provide protection from small arms fire. The body armor is part of an aircrew survival system. This is a special purpose Life Support Clothing and Equipment (LSC&E) item.

All items of clothing and/or accessories (whether or not detachable) designed and manufactured to provide specific protection. This includes bullet-proof clothing, general protective clothing and full body ensembles that protect from cuts, radiation, temperature extremes, hot splashes from molten metals and other hot liquids, potential impacts from tools, machinery and materials and hazardous chemicals. Examples of body protection include laboratory coats, coveralls, vests, jackets, aprons, surgical gowns and full body suits

Conformity Assessment Notes

Inspection:  Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure’ supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL–STD-105. Various tests and inspections are required as specified in the document.

Certification:  The contractor shall furnish a certificate of compliance. Where certificates of compliance are submitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to determine the validity of the certification.
