The ATSDR Partnership to Promote Local Efforts to Reduce Environmental Exposure (APPLETREE) cooperative agreement program will award $13.95 million to fund 30 state health departments to evaluate past and present exposure to environmental hazards and to prevent future exposures. The cooperative agreement will provide $66.5 million (projected) to 30 state health departments over the next 5 years, beginning April 1, 2023, and is part of the White House Justice40 Initiative.

Atlanta, GA – Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) released the final report for the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure assessments (EA) conducted in ten sites across the United States. The PFAS exposure assessments, which began in 2018, provided information to communities about the possible levels of PFAS in their bodies. The PFAS exposure assessments did not look at what types of health problems the exposure might cause.

(Atlanta) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) are announcing the start of a multi-site health study to investigate the relationship between drinking water contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and health outcomes. CDC and ATSDR are making awards, in the amount of $1 million each, to the following institutions to look at exposures in communities listed.

(Atlanta) -- The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) invites the public to hear from the scientists who conducted public health activities to understand the impact of exposure to contaminated drinking water at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The scientists will discuss these activities during a public meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, in Arlington, Virginia. A Community Assistance Panel (CAP) business meeting, which is also open to the public, will take place on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Representatives from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) will be present at the meetings to answer questions about the VA programs and benefits for those exposed at Camp Lejeune.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) are soliciting research applications to conduct a multi-site study on the human health effects of exposures to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) through drinking water. Proposed study sites must include communities that have current or past presence of PFAS in drinking water.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) announced today that they have identified communities to be a part of assessments to examine human exposure to per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The communities are near current or former military installations. The assessments are expected to begin in 2019 and continue through 2020 and are laying the groundwork for CDC/ATSDR’s future multi-site health study that will look at the relationship between PFAS exposure and health outcomes.
