No one physically touches the patient, which is good. Touching can be perceived negatively by the patient, who might be afraid of being hurt. As a consequence the patient could lose control despite his/her best efforts.

The nurse's approach was good. She looked directly at the patient while not staring. On the assessment she inquired how the patient was feeling rather than telling him how he should feel.

It is crucial to get the patient to feel responsible for his own care. Too often staff members provide the controls and forget to include the patient. By actively collaborating with the patient in his own care, he maintains his dignity and is personally empowered in taking next steps.
