This 1960 photograph depicted Dr. Chung as he was standing aside an analytical ultracentrifuge. With its optical abilities, the analytical nature of this ultracentrifuge enabled the device to take concentration readings at any time of the centrifugation process. The newer ultracentrifuge models are much smaller, more compact devices, which are much more accurate, and provide readings at a much faster rate than this older predecessor.
