Caption:
This 1962 photograph depicted the primary smallpox vaccination site on the left arm of a 38-year-old female smallpox patient in Cardiff, Wales during an epidemic. This woman had been vaccinated 3-days after she’d been exposed to the virus. These lesions were classified as vaccinial-modified variola major. See PHIL 10421 for view of this patient's right arm for the presence of additional vesicles, whereupon, the eruption sites coincided with the sites of previous scratch marks.
