Caption:
This 1962 photograph depicted the right arm of a 38-year-old female smallpox patient in Cardiff, Wales during an epidemic. This woman had been vaccinated 3-days after she’d been exposed to the virus. These lesions were classified as vaccinial-modified variola major, and consisted of abortive vesicles, which manifested along scratch marks. See PHIL 10420 for a view of this patient's left arm at the point at which the vaccination was administered.
