Stained using a periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) technique, along with a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) counterstain, this highly-magnified photomicrograph revealed the cytomorphologic details displayed by a number of normal sideroblasts, or immature red blood cells (RBCs), which contained darkly stained ferritin granules.
