Using an Unopette®, this historic 1965 photograph, depicted a laboratory technician performing a finger-stick, in order to extract a donor’s capillary blood specimen, which was to be tested for the presence of cyanomethemoglobin. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear additional personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety goggles, and a facemask.
