This 1952 image depicted the left foot of a patient, which displayed this tropical ulcer, upon his admission to Goroka Hospital, in Goroka, Papua New Guinea. At the time of this photograph, the cause of this infection was unknown, however, the cause of such ulcerative wounds, is usually found to be fusiform bacilli and spirochetes. See PHIL 12178, for the appearance of this acute ulcerative lesion after seven days of hospitalization.
